# Dumb Diagrams LLM-first architecture diagrams as code. Run `dumbdiagrams init` from a parent directory to create a project folder with agent guidance, draft portable .dgm files, and run `dumbdiagrams studio` to open any local file. Deterministic layout; no hosted model or built-in AI service. Requires Node.js 24+. AWS-first, local, desktop-focused. ## Documentation - [Welcome to Dumb Diagrams](https://dumbdiagrams.com/docs/): Create portable architecture diagrams as .dgm files and refine them in local Studio. - [Quick start](https://dumbdiagrams.com/docs/quick-start/): Install the CLI, create a project, and open your first diagram in Studio. - [Work with an agent](https://dumbdiagrams.com/docs/agent-workflow/): Give a coding agent context to draft a .dgm file, then refine it in Studio. - [Reviewed examples](https://dumbdiagrams.com/docs/examples/): Browse approved model runs of the prompt bank, with each diagram's prompt, source, and requirements. - [Using Studio](https://dumbdiagrams.com/docs/studio/): Edit source and fine-tune a diagram visually in the local Studio. - [AWS example: Cross-account data transfer platform](https://dumbdiagrams.com/docs/aws-cross-account-data-transfer/): A real agent-assisted session from dumbdiagrams init to a reviewed cross-account AWS diagram. - [Export and share](https://dumbdiagrams.com/docs/exports/): Export a diagram for a README, review, or presentation. - [How the engine works](https://dumbdiagrams.com/docs/how-it-works/): Follow your diagram from a text file to a finished drawing. - [Layout](https://dumbdiagrams.com/docs/layout/): How the engine arranges cards and groups, and how to keep your own positions. - [Connections and routing](https://dumbdiagrams.com/docs/routing/): How connections find a clear path, and how to guide them when needed. - [Quality and scoring](https://dumbdiagrams.com/docs/quality-and-scoring/): Understand drawing problems and see how the engine compares possible fixes. - [Auto-fix](https://dumbdiagrams.com/docs/auto-fix/): What Auto-fix tries and how it decides whether a change helps. - [The .dgm format](https://dumbdiagrams.com/docs/source-format/): The complete syntax reference for .dgm format 1. ## Start ```bash npm install -g create-dumb-diagrams dumbdiagrams init dumbdiagrams studio ``` Read AGENTS.md, then the relevant `.dumbdiagrams/` instructions and example bundle before authoring. Use exact catalog types and preserve saved views. Use **Open** in Studio to select a `.dgm` file from anywhere on disk.
